Workshop Details

The Lake District, a region and national park in northwest England is home to the highest mountains and deepest lakes in the country. It's best known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations. An amazing place to visit all year round but the Autumn and Winter really bring this place to life. Deep golden bracken and snow capped fells provide an irresistible backdrop for any photograph.

This is a short 3 day workshop based out of the heart of Windermere. With quick and easy access to some of the best views the Lake District has to offer. With a wide knowledge and portfolio of this varied landscape there is a plethora of locations we can visit that will provide great photographic opportunities no matter what the weather.

How To Book

A deposit of £100 is required to secure your place, the remaining £200 will be required 2 weeks before the start of the workshop.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Meet and Explore Windermere
We will meet at 12pm at Ellerthwaite Lodge in Widermere where we will be based. After lunch we will take a short drive to explore some local woodland then head to a vantage point over the Widermere valley for sunset.

Day 2 - Grassmere and Langdale
An early start will take us up to Loughrigg Fell for views over the Grassmere valley. After a late breakfast we'll head out to the incredible Langdale Valley where we will have chance to explore some ancient woodland and be in a perfect position for sunset. The longer evening will give us chance to review our images taken over the day.

Day 3 - Ullswater
Another early start will take us to one some of the best views the Lake District has to offer. A high vantage point over Ullswater will provide us with some spectacular views at sunrise. We will then head to the impressive Aira Force before heading back to the hotel to checkout and the conclusion of the workshop.

What to Bring

As you can aspect Autumn in the Lake District can result in some uncertain weather conditions. With this in mind, warm and waterproof clothing is essential. Although I will keep walks short, I would recommend a sturdy pair of walking boots as some of the trails are steep and rugged in parts.

For landscape photography I would recommend to keep your equipment as lightweight as possible. Camera bodies, lenses and tripods can quickly add up to a significant weight so make sure you have a rucksack/camera bag that you can comfortably carry over rugged terrain.

I will have my own laptop that we can use to assess images during the evenings but feel free to bring your own so you can do your own editing. I also have extra Nikon DSLRs, lenses and Lee filters that can be used during the workshop.

Hotel
We will be staying at the Ellerthwaite Lodge in Wideremere. Includes - Double Room - En-suite bathroom - Bathroom - WiFi
Short Walks
Most walks will be very short but some will require an ascent of up to 300 meters. These will be on good paths but it could be wet underfoot.
Easy/Moderate
We will be outside for the majority of the day. Some of the walks will be up to 2km from the car, although they will be at a leisurely pace.
